The Story of TriANGulO

Founded by Carina Moeller in 1997, TriANGulO quickly became a beloved cornerstone of New York City's tango scene. Many dancers still fondly recall making their way down the cobblestone streets of the Meatpacking District to reach the studio’s original home—an iconic triangular space above the Two Flags Butcher Supply Co. The shape of that first space inspired the studio’s name, which remained even after its move to a new location on West 20th Street in Chelsea.

The 20th Street studio became famous in its own right, especially for the vibrant mural painted by artist Russel Buckingham. Dancers from all over the world came to experience the magic of TriANGulO. Though we eventually lost that cherished space—and the iconic mural—we remained rooted in Chelsea, moving into our current boutique studio at 289 7th Avenue, between 26th and 27th Streets, on the 4th floor.

One of the things that sets TriANGulO apart is that we’ve always had a full-time space. That means no rushed classes, no switching rooms between lessons, and plenty of time to connect and practice after class. Students are always welcome to stay, hang out, and build community—something we’ve been nurturing for over 27 years. Through TriANGulO, many people have not only discovered tango, but also found lifelong friendships.
